Okay so I have had the same hair style since I can remember (i am 20)... its just like medium length and I have never done anything beyond leaving it.
Now I want to try having it a bit different maybe a tad spikey or something.. but its different and I am rather ';nervous'; about going and getting anything done.. I guess i am probably worried what other people will think.
Any advice appreciated!
Thanks,

Well, you're going to care what others think, of course. The first thing people notice is your physical appearance when they meet you. This can be both a good and not-so good thing. If you've had the same style for a long time, go with something new. Odds are you need a haircut if only to give it more shape, again. Tell the hair stylist whats up, what they think, what you want, and they'll go from there. If you want it spikey then thats the first thing to let them know, so they can incorporate it into what kind of cut they are thinking.
Remember that if you are not into getting up and actually doing your hair before you go out, but still want it spikey, ask for very choppy, razored edges. you will still get the spike, but you only have to throw on a bit of gel or mousse to make it stand up and you're done. It's going to be hard telling a stylist that you don't know what you want, as long as it's different. They will want to ask questions and get your opinion on other styles so you don't completely hate the look. Stylists are artists in their profession - anything that has their name on it they want to make the client enjoy it. I think you need to tell them what you want, what you don't want, what you are willing to try, and go from there. Often times dressers get clients who aren't sure what they should look like, and halfway through the cut some people start to panic. Advice: Get through the cut, without the anxiety. After I cut my hair off (donation) my stylist went through my head and when she was blow-drying it, it looked like a giant POOF of hair from the jetsons. I got a little scared, but let her finish, and I got a great cut. It was all poofed up because she hadn't straightened it yet and the heat made my hair freak out.
Good luck! Seriously, give it a shot, work up the guts and do it. You can even go out by yourself if you feel up to it, to take some of the pressure off.Changing mens hair style, what to do?
